SAMGOOL Construction is a home improvement company founded by a very experience multi tradesman in all fields of DIY, construction, interior exterior design, and landscaping. When Samad approached me, he first wanted to know how to start a business and become self-employed. Not knowing that he already possesses the skills, I draw his attention to setting himself a portfolio to present to his clients. I made him understand by having a well-presented portfolio with all his previous projects would give him a better chance of making a sale.  As a result, we then agreed to start with a simple website to help pilot run the business to see if it’s maintainable. The website we decided to build from him was one that will have a picture gallery of his previous work as well as contact information. Although the website was challenging, the logo was the one that needed more attention in the whole project. First, I was trying to figure out what would work as a construction logo, i.e. what symbols or icons and typeface would I use to give it that uniqueness. Although the first draft designs were pretty good, I wasn’t convinced the logos were unique enough. This is because having a house incorporated in the logo is something that many DIY or construction and state agent’s logos have already used. As a way to combat this, I decided to take a different path and decided to draw elements of a house i.e. like panels that also looks like windows and blinds. Once we found the winning logo, I then began working on the website, getting the pages set up. following that, I then began working on creating a new plugin for the gallery from scratch using PHP and XML. I run into a few problems with the images displaying property on the thumbnail. This is because the images were very wide as it was made up of 2 images, before and after. At first, the images didn’t display proportionately due to the width of thumbnail forcing the width of the image to squeeze to fit. I then did a bit more research online until I manage to find a fixed and added animated transition on hover and all the backend functions. When the website was first finished and launched, it was a grey and orange coloured theme. after few days Samad contacted me and told that he would prefer to change the colour to something different. in response to his request, I send him the image of the website in various colours for him to choose from and he returned back completely happy with choosing the grey and lime green. And so, I applied the changes to all the branding and converted it to the new colours. Following the success of the website, Samad then asked me to design his business cards to go with his branding. Which and did and also printed it for him in premium gloss which looked fantastic. SummaryWorking with Samad was a really pleasant experience, he such a nice guy. Very honest and straight forward. I strongly believe that his business will take off and become successful. He knows his work really well and I will definitely recommend him anyone. For many years I have seen Samad around, I have never actually spoken to him properly before until he approached me for this project. And I will never guess in a million years that we would do business together. like they say “never judge a book by its cover” and now his like a close friend and if I ever need any construction work needed doing, he will be the first for me to call. Am very thankful for this opportunity and pray to do more work with him the future
