When I started with Youth Music Theatre UK, I was the first in house graphic designer for the company. I was made responsible for helping the marketing manager to create promotional materials for various adverting media. This included design enticing marketing materials such as striking posters, flyers, videos and interactive banners to promote promo each and very musical performances productions the company showed in theatres around the UK. I also developing solutions and concepts for cost-free marketing strategies to meet tight budgets, this was done by social networking sites to create additional welcome pages with a visual identity to amplify brand awareness and to generate supplementary traffic to the YMT website. I also managed to ensure all communications and marketing materials adhere to YMT’s branding guidelines
As time went on, I was made the in house computer technician for solving technical issues with all the computers and network in the office. When cloud sharing became widely available I was made in charge source out the best clouding system and to connect all the computers to one central system to make collaboration easier and seamlessly. On top of that, I was made responsible for sourcing out other software, installing and configuring them, and to ensure that all the computers in the office run properly and smoothly. I was also made in charge of restructuring keeping an updated archive of all graphical resources such as promotional materials, photographs and videos and lots of other content to maximise efficiency
During my last year with YMT, I was given the task to help the company rebrand itself. Although this was a joint collaboration with a third party company, my colleagues and , I, we successfully designed a new TMY logo and changed the old colours from dark navy blue and white to a vibrant red and white.
Ongoing, I was then asked to take on the new website on my own after the third party company proposal design failed to meet the quality the company wanted.
- First, I had to map the old website which had hundreds of pages, then and had to simplify the mapping by creating a better navigation structure and getting rid of unnecessary pages.
- Design the front page of the new website using Photoshop and get it approved
- Then back-up the old website from the server using FileZilla FTP software.
- Whilst backing up the old website, I had to convert the site design from PSD to HTML to create the template theme using Dreamweaver.
- Install the new directory for the new website and all the necessary software to support the website.
- Complete the installation by adding the website theme, the pages, navigations, and all the other content to populate the website.
After the successful launch, I was awarded an appraisal for saving the company thousands of pounds for having done the website in house and was asked to also take on another site for bookings and payment to which I gladly accepted.
Creating the booking website was a bit easier due to that fact that I was already acquainted with the new branding. Plus the fact I already designed the new main site, it was quicker to follow the same methodology to get the microsite up. The micro booking was developed using PHP and MySQL database. I created a database to pretty much was hold inventory and order history. Following that, I then created a page that made the booking payments pay through PayPal to save the company extract money then using the existing third party booking site which took on more percentage.
Working with Youth Music Theatre UK really helped boost my confidence in the work environment. Although I was working in the London office, I liaised with colleagues based elsewhere around the UK. .
