Shakeel Romero is mostly known for his powerful spokenwords series on the brilliant biographies of leaders and legends from history.

When I meet Shakeel, it was through our community centre at Croydon ICT where he approached me and asked about me if I was a designer. For a while we spoke about a website he wanted for himself then one day he rang me out of the blue and asked me to come over to start on the project. First, he bought a hosting package with a domain name, then started discussions on how he wanted the website to be and look like. He had many ideas and he also provided hand sketch drawing the layout on paper which he gave me to use as a guide. Following that, I started working on his logo design and then on the website.  because he was more focused around Islamic spoken wards. I kept the theme a bit old school, with calligraphy style look. When I complete the logo and website and I showed it to him. His first reaction wasn’t the one that I was expecting. He told me that the design didn’t represent him as to how he wanted. He then explained that he wanted some more contemporary and Modern. Following that he also added that the logo wasn’t how he wanted it, so he said then took the responsibility to design it himself.

Together we work on the design he wanted. He made it clear that the colours he wanted for the website are going to be red and black with a white background. And so I made the amendment to the site and added the photos he wanted it.   I had to edit his photos to match the design of the site. He then wanted a landing page with his picture before users entered the main site and so I implemented that to the site as well. Although the website was ready it took a few weeks for the content from Shakeel to update on to the site as he still updated his bio and other information he wanted to add to the site. 

Summary

Shakeel, is a very creative person who knows exactly what he wants. Working with was very interesting, and found that he always like to plan ahead with sketches before he goes ahead. Shakeel has already established his brand and has a good number of followers on social media. So therefore I believe there is a lot for him in the future.
